I began collecting Western Art in the 1980's. This interest became my introduction into the art world. After retirement I took art classes for a year at the Kansas City Art Institute . Thus I began my artistic career at a pivotal point in my life.
Early in my career I painted more realistic pieces, but over the past 20 years I have shifted to more Abstract and Impressionistic work. Picasso, DeKooning, and Richter inspire me stylistically.
The most recent article to feature my art appeared in the The Lake Sun newspaper in an article titled "TO EVOKE EMOTION, " July 21-22, 2017. The article stated "Unique mediums like coffee grounds, cardboard, wax paper and paintable caulk are part of what make Gary's art so beautiful and memorable."
Additional articles are available on line regarding my military service, profession as an Engineering Geologist, and my art career.
My paintings can be seen at Lake Fine Art Academy and Galleria, 1426 Bagnell Dam Blvd, Lake Ozark, Missouri, as well as Bill's Art Center and Gallery, 94 N. Business Route 5, Camdenton, Missouri. They can also be seen by appointment at my gallery in Camdenton, Missour
I create raw energy on canvas through texture, color, and imagination. I do not approach a canvas with preconceived ideas. Once I place the brush or palette knife in my hand, it takes on a life of its own. I paint spontaneously and fast without restrictions. I concentrate on the technique and not the final result. My mission is to have those who view my paintings to forget about their everyday problems even if it's only for a few seconds.
There is nothing more rewarding than to experiment with colors, shapes and styles, taking a step back when you're finished and having a sense of artistic accomplishment. This is why I love painting.
